Over spring break, EMU baseball went 2-2 while in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

On Sunday morning, the Royals (9-5) competed in their first game of the week, against Fredonia (3-1).

The Royals started the game off strong, with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. First-year Matt Curry then hit a one-out single in the second and scored on another wild pitch to make it 4-0.

The Blue Devils responded with two single runs in the third and fifth, before tying the score with two more runs in the eighth.

Between the third and eighth innings, a total of 10 runners were left on base as EMU struggled to get back ahead. Bases were left loaded in the seventh inning and a runner was thrown out at home to end the eighth.

With a score of 6-4, EMU first-year Brett Lindsay had a one-out single and first-year Ray Tricarico followed with a walk. Lindsay then scored to make the game 6-5.

Senior Damon Frazier also started on the mound, striking out seven and allowing only one earned run in 6.0 innings.

Junior Tyler Campbell threw 2.1 frames but took the loss with four runs allowed.

Still in Myrtle Beach, yet at a different location, EMU played their second game against Mount Aloysius (0-7).

With a score of 4-0 in the fifth, junior Daniel Scott had a double and came home on Frazier’s RBI.

Mount Aloysius began to put pressure on the Royals due to infield errors.

Sophomore pitcher John Judy cut the lead in half, making the score 4-2. Junior Michael Wilhite ended the rally and struck out two batters. Sophomore catcher Justin Parrish caught a runner at first base, making three outs.

In the seventh, Mount Aloysius added a point to the scoreboard, but the Royals kept their lead.

Lindsay led off with a single and Parrish followed with another single to bring him home.

Wilhite pitched easily through the eighth, and junior closer Ryan Brewer earned his fourth save with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth.

Scott and Lindsay each had three hits and combined for three runs and two RBIs. Parrish added a pair of singles and an RBI.

Judy improved to 2-0 with the win, giving up only two runs over 5.0+ innings.
