Women’s Soccer

Seniors Sylvia Mast and Logan Braun were recognized for their contributions to the team before the Homecoming Weekend match versus Roanoke College on Saturday. Despite being outshot 20-3, the Royals kept the game at only a 1-0 loss.

In their game against Shenandoah University on Tuesday, Oct. 16, the team lost 5-0. Junior Leah Wenger had eight saves.

On Saturday, Oct. 20, the Royals won a key conference game against Ferrum College, picking up a 2-1 win. Junior Laura Rittenhouse assisted the first goal, with a pass to first-year Chloe Weaver, and scored the second goal. Wenger had five saves. Sophomore Rachel Sauder had three shots on goal.

The Royals defeated Randolph 2-1 in last night’s game. In the fifth minute, Rittenhouse assisted Sauder with the first goal of the match. The Royals second point came from an own goal by the Wildcats. Wenger had three saves.

First-year Hannah York ended with four shots and Rittenhouse ended with seven. The Royals’ next game is Saturday, Oct. 27 against Washington and Lee at 1 p.m.

Men’s Soccer

The team lost their EMU Homecoming Weekend game to the University of Lynchburg. However, it was only a 1-0 loss to the team that is nationally ranked at #7. The only goal scored was off of a penalty kick. Senior Emmanuel Kampanga made eight saves.

The Royals picked up a 3-1 win against Hampden- Sydney on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Senior Emmanuel Boamah grabbed the first goal for EMU with an assist from senior Dave Drafton. Junior Caleb Oakes scored off a corner kick from sophomore Troy Davis. Drafton also picked up a goal, with an assist from senior Erik Peachey.

EMU picked up another conference win against Guilford on Senior Recognition night. Seniors Drafton, Dominic Powers, Kampanga, Boamah, and Peachey were recognized prior to the game. Boamah picked up the first goal of the match on a corner kick from Davis.

In the final five minutes, EMU picked up two more goals to seal their victory. Powers assisted Davis for the tie-breaking goal and Drafton assisted Oakes for a third goal in the final minute.

On Tuesday, Oct. 23, the Royals lost 3-0 to Washington and Lee. Kampanga had six saves and Oakes had three shots, with two of those on goal.

The loss puts them at 9-8- 1 overall and 6-4-0 for the conference. They are currently seeded at fourth. If Roanoke College wins their Wednesday night game, they will knock EMU to fifth seed, which would cause the Royals to lose the quarter-final home game.

Women’s Volleyball

The Royals won their Thursday, Oct. 11 game against Hollins and their Saturday, Oct. 13 game against Ferrum in 3-0 sweeps. Seniors Erin Brubaker, Beck Hoskins, and Maria Yoder were recognized before their game on Saturday.

On Tuesday, Oct. 16, the Royals lost all three sets to Washington and Lee.

On Thursday, Oct. 18, the Royals triumphed over Mary Baldwin University 3-0. Brubaker earned a season high of 11 kills.

Sophomore Amy Goodman ended the match with seven kills. First-year Andrea Troyer finished with seven kills and two solo blocks. Sophomore Carly Gingerich had 18 assists, nine digs, and four aces. First-year Candice Shaheen led in digs, with 18.

The Royals faced two losses at the ODAC Quad, knocking them out of ODAC postseason play. Guildford took a 3-0 win over the Royals and Randolph nabbed a 3-2 victory.

Against Guilford, Hoskins ended with seven kills and two blocks. Yoder had four stuffs, and first-year Tarynn Clark had 12 digs. Against Randolph, Troyer doubled her kills and blocks for the season, with ten and seven, respectively. Junior Tori Wigley had six of the Royal’s 16 aces. Gingerich ended with 29 set assists and 17 digs.

On Oct. 24, the Royals lost against Shenandoah in a 0-3 match.

The Royals final game is at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26 at Bridgewater College.

Women’s Field Hockey

The Royals faced Sweet Briar Oct. 22 and came out with an 8-0 win over the Vixens. This improved the team’s overall record to 8-9, which is the most wins the program has had since 2011.

First-year Skylar Hedgepeth found the back of the goal just 21 seconds into the game and then again at the 7:01 mark. First-year Rachel Breslin and Hedgepeth each scored to total four goals in the first half.

Junior Casey Webb, senior Julie Burkhardt, and sophomores Kayla Maret and Bri Miller each scored in the second half bringing the score to eight. This was Burkhardt’s first game after missing ten games due to injury.

The Royals were in control of the ball most of the game with 36-5 shots on goal. Senior Kelsey Troyer had four perfect saves.

The Royals lost their most recent game Oct. 24 against Randolph-Macon in a 4-6 match.

The Royals’ last game is away at Roanoke on Oct. 27 .
