EMU picked up its 500th program victory in a 3-0 win over Lancaster Bible in its season opener on September 3rd, 2022. EMU was dominant on both sides of the field in the win putting up 24 shots with 12 on target. EMU’s defense held Lancaster to only eight shots and recorded five saves, as Lancaster struggled to maintain any offensive attack.

EMU got its offense going instantly, taking two shots within the first two minutes of the game. EMU then scored its first goal as Elizabeth Longacre scored 5:16 seconds into the first quarter. Riding off of the momentum, EMU scored again just two minutes later, as Morgan Leslie extended the Royals lead to 2-0. EMU continued to put pressure on Lancaster, putting up multiple shots, and intercepting the ball whenever Lancaster attempted to move the ball up the pitch.

EMU started off the second half just where it left off, picking up a quick goal just three minutes into the second half as Elizabeth Longacre would get her second goal of the game, putting the Royals up 3-0. The Royals remained sound on defense putting on an absolute show on that side of the pitch, not allowing Lancaster to have any chance of a comeback. EMU finished strong to put win number 500 in the record books. After the game the team headed to midfield to celebrate the victory with special number 500 balloons.

I had an opportunity to speak with Coach Stick Kishorn after the game and get her thoughts on the victory. When asked how much the victory meant to her and her team, she replied, “We’re excited to win that 500th, not just for our team, but for all of our alumni and everyone that put so much into this program.” Coach Stick said she was “happy to start the season off on a positive note.”

I got to speak to Kate Landis, a junior on the team, about the victory as well. When asked about the interview, Landis said, “The 500th win meant a lot to me. It was really an honor to be a part of the team at this time”. Landis talked about how great the feeling was, stepping onto the field that day, knowing there was a possibility that win number 500 was in reach. She also mentioned that the celebration afterwards was also great.

Elizabeth Longacre finished with 2 goals and 9 shots, Brandy Troutman had 2 assists, and Marie Wilson recorded 4 saves. For Lancaster, Molly Gray attempted 3 shots, and Amanda Hoover recorded 9 saves.
