Playing two intense games on Sunday, Feb. 25, the Diamond Royals went 1-1 against visiting team Penn State-Altoona.

With seven games in six days, the men improved to 6-4 this season.

Over the first three innings in the first game, pitcher senior Damon Frazier put in work, leaving five runners in total. In the bottom of the third, Frazier also led off with a deep double to left field, crossing home after a two-out single from junior Tyler McFadden.

In the fifth inning, Penn State-Altoona answered back with a two-out hit. This bases clearing double gave the Lions a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the frame, junior Zach Roberts walked, coming home after Frazier doubled down the line.

First-year Jaylon Lee hit a single and Frazier scored when the two runners flawlessly performed a double steal, tying the game at 3-3.

This seven-inning game went into extra innings, as neither team managed to add to the scoreboard.

However, for the Lions, sophomore George Stiuso made a homerun down the right field line to lead off the eighth inning.

EMU kept fighting and powered through to tie the game back up when first-year Jacob Merica drew a one-out walk and Roberts sent a two-out double.

With the game still tied at 4-4 in the 11th inning, the Lions took advantage of a two-out error by the Royals. Penn State-Altoona blasted a double to center field, bringing in two unearned runs and providing the final score of 6-4.

In total, EMU earned nine walks with eight hits, highlighted by Roberts’ 2-4 performance with two walks.

Frazier had a pair of doubles and scored twice, while junior leadoff man Daniel Scott had two singles. Senior Adam Marston and first-year Brett Lindsay each walked twice.

Senior pitcher Tristan Childress gave up a single run in 2.1 innings. Junior Ryan Brewer entered in the eighth inning, taking the loss with two hits and two unearned runs in 3.2 innings.
