College life can be hectic, but these apps are here to help make it a bit easier.

As college students, many of us spend a considerable amount of time on our phones. At times, our tech can be used as a means of procrastination, but our phones can also be helpful tools for navigating our lives at school and beyond. Here are just a few apps that you might find helpful in your college years.

Grammarly

Spell check lovers rejoice! This app, also available as an extension on the Chrome browser, is a helpful tool that checks and revises your grammar as you type. When Grammarly notices a mistake, a small red line appears, indicating that it needs your attention. By hovering over or clicking on the word, the app then suggests an alternative that is more grammatically correct. This can be helpful for everything from important essays to professional emails. Since many class rubrics deduct points for grammatical errors, this is a quick and easy way to double-check your work.

Moodle

A majority of students are familiar with the website Moodle, as it is the preferred method for grading and assignments for EMU, but its lesser-known companion app is a helpful tool as well.

The app allows you to access all of the information from the website and also allows users to download their class data in order to access it offline.

The app also keeps track of assignments from all classes in a calendar and is able to send notifications the day before the due date to make sure that nothing is forgotten.

Calm

The college experience, while exciting and fast-paced, does not often leave adequate time for sleep during the week. The app Calm hopes to help as much as it can.

This multipurpose app aims to help with relaxation both during the day and night. It offers free access to seven-day programs for meditation and mindfulness that encourage relaxation.

The app’s other prominent feature is its sleep function. It offers white noise tracks and a variety of “sleep stories” that are designed to relax you and put you to sleep. There is also a sleep timer option that will turn the music or other sound off after a designated amount of time.

Venmo

The Venmo cash sharing has come in handy many times, whether it be splitting the grocery bill or a late-night pizza order.

This app allows you to link your bank account of choice and make transactions with other Venmo users directly through the app itself. Users are able to both send and request payments from anyone on your contact list.

You can decide whether to then transfer the money into your account or keep it within the app itself to use to pay for other things.

Venmo has made it easier than ever to pay people back instantly and does not require you to carry around cash or change.

College life can be complicated, but these apps aim to make it a bit easier.
