Latinx Heritage Month is a recurring celebration, spanning from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Americans celebrate and honor Latin culture in different ways. One company that decided to show their appreciation for Heritage Month is the Apple Company.

In honor of Latinx Heritage Month, Apple has created a radio station called SOMOS, meaning “we are.” This radio station is a four-part special with features from Latinx singers and artists. These artists play music, talk about celebrating their heritage, the importance of culture, and what it was like to grow up Hispanic or Latinx.

Christian Acosta, from NBC Universal, is the host of this limited Apple Music radio station about Latinx heritage. In the first episode of SOMOS Radio, two special guests were Goyo and Rauw Alejandro. Goyo is an Afro-Latina artist from the Latin Grammy award winning group ChocQuibTown while Rauw Alejandro is a well-known artist who has sung with Ozuna and other Latinx artists.

During their first episode of SOMOS Radio, Goyo and Rauw talked about how growing up in the Latinx community has affected their music and the way they are now. Not only were there important conversations, but in addition to talking about being Latinx, the two also played a variety of music, including some of their own music. Some of the songs played were “Sigues Con El (Remix)” by Arcangel, Romeo Santos, and Sech, “Vuelve” by ChocQuibTown, “Relacion (Remix)” by Sech, Daddy Yankee, and J Balvin.

The SOMOS radio was fun to listen to. One episode took up to an hour to listen to entirely. Having the two special guests on the episode made the content pop more because of the connection to the listeners. The music was energetic, giving a nice break to hear another  culture’s music. Although it was a little difficult to understand everything since it was in Spanish, it helps the audience understand the language and culture more in depth.
