“The Owl House” is a show created by Dana Terrace that came out on Jan. 10, 2020, on Disney Channel. The show follows Luz Noceda as she enters a wonderful world of magic and then becomes trapped there as she embarks on mystical adventures through this new world. With the help of Eda the Owl Lady and King, a cat-like creature who seems to be Eda’s pet of some sort, she is able to learn more about the world and even learn magic herself in her own way.

The show also features Alex Hirsch, creator of Gravity Falls, as the voice of King—something that becomes very obvious as the character can sound just like Bill Cipher at times. Other than Hirsch, most of the voice actors don’t feel instantly recognizable, unless you’re a nerd. The talent in everything is evident, though, from the wonderful animations to the entertaining storyline and the wonderful crafting of it all together.

In the show, it also does something that isn’t normally seen on TV. Two of the characters, Amity Blight and the main character, Luz, become a couple. The fact that there are two girls being a couple honestly comes as a surprise. Not because it’s anything weird to have two girls, but because the show did it so casually. They had them awkwardly fall in love with each other as everyone else does. They normalized it and made it feel smooth and relatable, not something that was foreign in any way. Even a guy could relate to how they felt about each other!

The show does an incredible job with the villain, who deserves an honorable mention. Emperor Belos is a tyrannical ruler who gets introduced in an amazing way. They make him mysterious, someone you know nothing about, and who seems to hold all power. That gets further reinforced as the main characters interact with him. He’s just this omnipotent being of nothing but pure evil who wants to watch the world burn so he can sit atop it on his throne. Then, as the show progresses, there is no doubt of his evil as he never gets redeemed and stays as nothing but pure evil throughout the whole show.

Overall, the show comes out very nicely, with plenty of fans wanting more of the show. The show received a 100% rotten tomatoes score from critics (with an 82% score from fans), and an 8.6/10 on IMDB. The show is definitely deserving of these or higher reviews, being an absolute 9.4/10 show that was very wonderfully made.
