As I reflect on my transformational experiences at EMU over the past four years, my heart and mind are filled with nostalgia, gratitude, and warmth, as well as lamentation, frustration, and inspiration.

There have been so many impactful moments during my journey that naming one emotion or thought would limit the depth of my growth in this space. I have shared so many laughs, wonderful conversations, and wild adventures with my friends.

I have also witnessed, listened to, and experienced intense challenges, hurtful moments, and exclusion along the way.

As a math major with minors in music and honors, I learned extensively about mathematics, music, and academic rigor. And, through my extra-curricular involvements, I also developed greater relational understanding and cultural competency.

In addition, EMU invited me into conversations about climate justice which now inform an integral piece of my ethical framework.

It would be impossible to list all of my many memories from my journey here at EMU, but I will name a few: my cross-cultural experience in India, helping Daniel Showalter write a peer-reviewed article, traveling with three friends to Puerto Rico for a Mennonite Disaster Service trip, participating and collaborating at Student Kairos Place, learning and being stretched by a restorative justice training, and going on a multitude of bike rides and playful adventures with friends.

The culmination of these and many other experiences offered through EMU’s space and networks have set me on a trajectory to engage intentionally and with integrity in the injustice, ambiguity, and profound beauty in the world.
