During SGA’s meeting last night, the senate heard and approved a $300 funding request from Gospel Choir for a new performance keyboard. In addition, the proposed SGA constitutional amendments were approved. These amendments will be sent to the President’s cabinet for official ratification.

Rachel Roth Sawatzky offered information about the convocation program. One concerning statistic is that 40% of first-year students are not on track to have enough convocation points to graduate. The committee is trying to find creative ways to address this problem since convocation credits are a graduation requirement. Roth Sawatzky gathered feedback and answered the senates questions. If you have concerns or questions about this issue, please contact Roth Sawatzky (more information is available at emu.edu/ studentlife/convocation/faq).

During the open floor space, senior Sylvia Mast shared about a recent Undergraduate Council meeting. One concern raised was that EMU’s career fair only had five student participants this year. Junior Hannah Nichols shared about the most recent CODI (Committee on Diversity and Inclusion) meeting. The committee met with Provost Fred Kniss, who said that he wants to see CODI be more active if it will continue to be a campus committee. He also said that the RELI (Racial Equity Leadership Institute) training is not something that will be financially supported by EMU’s administration. If you have any questions or ideas for CODI to pursue more small-scale anti-oppression and inclusive programs on EMU’s campus, please contact Nichols.

Also, SGA Executive elections are this week. Keep an eye out for the SGA Executive elections form in your email inbox. Be sure to vote!
