Campus Activities Council (CAC) hosted their first Karaoke night of the school year on Saturday Oct. 15 at 7pm in UC 177. Pizza and soda were provided and those who performed received a coupon to Gift and Thrift.

The event consisted of solo as well as group performances by several students and some community members. Songs of different genres were performed and audience members did not shy away from cheering and singing along.

Seniors Phillip Krabill and Madilyn Kilmer joined together for a duet performance of Billy Joel’s “The Longest Time.”

“I’m glad I did it. It felt goofy, in a good way,” Kilmer shared describing how she felt performing at the karaoke event.

In addition to Kilmer and Krabill, another notable duet that evening was made up of first-years Anne Cornelius and Rachel Tusing. The duo performed multiple times singing popular songs such as “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen, “Baby” by Justin Bieber, and “Love You Like a Love Song” by Selena Gomez. They were later joined by fellow first-years Milion Misgun and David Adjei-Darteh to perform the Katy Perry hit “The One That Got Away.”

CAC members and seniors Aliyyah Haggard and Maya Smith also took part in the karaoke fun. As a duet, Haggard and Smith gave an energizing performance of “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift which sparked claps as well as singing along from the audience. Smith later gave a solo performance of “On my own” from the musical “Les Misérables.”

The duets didn’t stop there. Phillip Krabill returned to join senior Emma Burkhart in performing a rendition of “Love Is an Open Door” from Disney’s “Frozen” while senior Olivia Hazelton was joined by Madilyn Kilmer for a performance of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”.

“It was electric,” Hazelton shared.

Other performances from the night included Marciella Shallomita singing “Never Not” by Lauv and David Adjei-Darteh singing “Léon Le Caméléon” by Stephane Husar.

Haggard, a CAC member who helped organize the karaoke event shared that she was happy with how the event unfolded. “It was a small turnout but a very encouraging environment,” she said.

This event was only the first karaoke event of the school year. Students across campus who may be eager to share their love for singing should keep a lookout for future karaoke nights hosted by CAC.
