EMU’s annual club showcase brought together a wide range of student organizations, each given one minute to introduce their mission, activities, and opportunities for involvement. This time, with a twist. At the end of all presentations, the clubs went head-to-head in a competition where the club receiving the loudest cheers won $50. With ten clubs represented, including Queer Student Alliance (QSA), the Weather Vane, Badminton Club, Ultimate Frisbee, EMU Outdoors, Musical Theatre, Student Chaplaincy, Peace Club, Student Education Association (SEA), and Student Government Association (SGA), students were offered a snapshot of the many ways they can connect on campus.
EMU continues to emphasize equality, diversity, and community support through its student organizations. Whether students are drawn to advocacy, journalism, athletics, outdoor adventure, or leadership, the showcase highlighted that there is truly a club for every interest.
The Weather Vane won first place, with QSA as the runner-up. Izzy Stauffer, the QSA President, shared that the club’s main goal is “to help queer people around campus and be a representation for them.” They added that QSA works to “foster a welcoming environment that allows everyone to be themselves, whether queer or not.” Stauffer noted that students should care about the club’s work because of the broader social context. “Queer people have been a largely discriminated‑against group,” said Stauffer. “It can be hard being queer in an environment that expects you to be straight or cisgender. We want to help be part of a change to normalize queer people.”
Their perspective echoed a theme present throughout the showcase: EMU’s commitment to creating spaces where every student can feel seen, supported, and connected. That commitment extends beyond residential students as well.
Importantly, EMU also designs these clubs with commuter students in mind. By offering flexible meeting times, welcoming environments, and a wide range of activities, the university ensures that students who live off‑campus can still engage deeply with campus life. These clubs help commuter students build friendships, participate in community events, and feel fully included without worrying that they’re missing out on the EMU experience.
From high‑energy outdoor sports to creative indoor activities, the event showcased just how wide‑ranging EMU’s extracurricular life truly is. Clubs used their one‑minute spotlight to highlight what makes their group unique, whether that meant building community, offering creative outlets, or giving students a chance to try something completely new. For many attendees, the showcase wasn’t just about signing up for a club; it was about discovering spaces where they could grow, collaborate, and feel at home on campus.
