Since their debut in 2022, K-pop group Le Sserafim has released a variety of music with empowering messages and fresh, bold sounds. Formed by the label Source Music under HYBE, Le Sserafim consists of five members: Sakura, Kim Chae-won, Huh Yun-jin, Kazuha, and Hong Eun-chae. The group’s name, which is an anagram of “I’m Fearless,” perfectly encapsulates the attitude they project through their music and performances. With their strong personalities, innovative concepts, and catchy music, they’ve become a rising force in the K-pop industry.

Le Sserafim’s music has evolved since their debut, showcasing a confident and bold image while experimenting with a range of sounds. Their discography blends groovy, energetic style beats with empowering themes, though each track offers something different, from sleek and confident pop anthems to more experimental or laid-back genres. A constant throughout their work is a focus on growth, resilience, and fearlessness, which resonates in both their lyrics and performances. One thing that draws me to Le Sserafim’s music is how they balance confidence with vulnerability, creating songs that are both empowering and relatable. Their intricate choreography enhances this, adding layers to their artistry and amplifying the depth of their music.

Le Sserafim’s most recent release, the single album Spaghetti, dropped Oct. 24, and it’s a testament to how far they’ve come as a group. The album features two main tracks: the title track “Spaghetti (feat. J-hope of BTS)” and the B-side song “Pearlies (My oyster is the world),” along with several remixes of the title song. While Spaghetti is a relatively short album, it delivers a lot in terms of style, fun, and musical depth.

The title track “Spaghetti” is a quirky, upbeat song that stands out from Le Sserafim’s previous releases. It’s fun, full of energy, and features a touch of hip-hop flair from J-hope of BTS. The song blends jazz-inspired beats with modern pop sounds, creating a catchy, playful vibe. Lyrically, “Spaghetti” uses food and cooking metaphors to convey themes of self-confidence, unapologetic self-expression, and a playful defiance against negativity. The meaning behind the song suggests that the group is like spaghetti stuck between your teeth, unforgettable and impossible to shake off, even for their critics. It’s a bold, confident statement wrapped in a creative, memorable track that blends genres and experimental elements while staying true to Le Sserafim’s unique style.

The B-side, “Pearlies (My oyster is the world)” is a much softer, more introspective piece. The song is beautifully melodic, with gentle instrumentals that create a soothing atmosphere. The message of the song is just as beautiful with it being about self-discovery, empowerment, and embracing the unique qualities that make us who we are. The vocal performance in “Pearlies” is especially sweet and emotional, with the members showing off their vocal range and harmonizing beautifully. The simplicity of the arrangement allows the song’s meaning to really shine, and it’s a perfect contrast to the more energetic vibe of the title track.

While “Spaghetti” is an enjoyable listen overall, I do wish there would’ve been more songs on the album. With only two main tracks and a few remixes that I wouldn’t even count on the album, it was a bit short compared to some of their past releases. However, the quality of the tracks themselves is excellent, and the songs we do get are satisfying in their own right.

Beyond the songs themselves, what truly makes Le Sserafim stand out for me is their ability to combine catchy beats with meaningful messages. Their music often centers around themes of confidence, self-love, and breaking free from societal expectations, which feels empowering and refreshing. In addition to the music, their performances are a visual treat. The choreography in their songs is always dynamic, intricate, and full of personality. Watching their performances is always exciting, and I think their creative and fun approach to dancing elevates the experience of their music.

Overall, “Spaghetti” is a great addition to Le Sserafim’s discography. It may not be the longest album, but it packs a punch with its quirky title track and heartfelt B-side. If you’re a fan of their previous work or just someone looking for a fresh, exciting sound in K-pop, I recommend giving this album a listen. With their bold approach to music, killer choreography, and empowering messages, Le Sserafim is definitely a group to keep an eye on.
